March 8, 2019 - Week 26

Hello Dale Street,

What an amazing week!  Take a minute to look through this week's #beproudbedale blog.  As you are doing this....I wanted to share a thought from our special guest this week, Newbery Medal winning author Matt De La Pena: "I challenge you to go home tonight and look in the mirror and see if you can see love looking back.”

What's a great way to start a school week?  A collaborative science marble run challenge in Mrs. Dowd's fourth grade classroom is certainly one way!

Check out this Medfield Patch article highlighting the collaboration between Mr. Mason's fifth grade class and Mrs. Ravinski's first grade class.

On Thursday, students from Blake Middle School's Anti-Defamation League visited our fifth grade classrooms and shared lessons about understanding and respecting differences.  Thank you so much to these wonderful students for sharing such an important message.
This week Dale Street celebrated Reading Across America week with guests readers, raffles, and an author visit.  A HUGE thank you to our very generous and supportive PTO and MCPE for funding this awesome visit. Take a look....
Thanks Dr. Marsden!

Thanks Mr. Scott!
Thanks Mr. Vaughn, Mrs. O' Shea Brooke, Officer Manganello, Officer Treggiari , Mrs. Cowell, and Mr. Parga!

Thanks Mr. Jackson!

Thank you Mrs. Riley!
I LOVED reading to Ms. Carlyle's class!

Thanks Matt De La Pena!

Evelyn did a phenomenal job introducing our guest of honor!

Congratulations to Dale Street book mark contest runner up, Charlie from Mrs. Dowd's and winner, Justin from Mrs. Flynn's class.

Thanks to Samantha in Mrs. Crable's class for reading today's book recommendation.  Samantha recommended The Perfect Secret by Rob Buyea for "someone who loves surprises."  Samantha rated this book 5 out of 5 stars!  Thanks Samantha!

Mrs. Flynn's fourth grade class welcomed in some special guests today.  These awesome students participated in a mindfulness presentation.  Students loved learning strategies to cope with stress, anxiety, and arguments with friends. It was so nice seeing what they wrote in their gratitude notebooks.

Thank you to all the parents who made time to come to this morning's Principal's Coffee.  We had a very thorough discussion regarding the placement process and Medfield's Challenge Success initiative.  If you were unable to attend, you can access the presentation here.  It is also on the Dale Street website.

Parent/teacher conferences are just around the corner. Conferences are a wonderful time to check in with your child's teacher about their academic and social/emotional growth. Conference dates are set for Thursday, March 21st and Tuesday, March 26th. Both days are half days for the students with dismissal at 11:40 a.m.. Please note that Term II report cards will be sent home on Tuesday, March 19th.

During writer's workshop this week, students in Ms. Isaacson's fourth grade classroom worked together to peer edit each other's Canada/Mexico informational stories.  #collaboration

Here’s an easy way to say "thanks" to Dale's teachers!  Teachers have indicated wished-for classroom supply items on tags hanging from a “tree” in the front hallway. When you’re in the building for conferences, feel free to grab a tag or two from your child’s teacher or any of the specialist teachers to fulfill some of their wishes during the month of March!

Round 2 of our March Madness Tournament will be held next week.  Round 1 scores will be tabulated on Monday morning and students will be notified at lunch. Students and staff who make it to Round 2 will need to shoot 10 free throws during one of the following days: Tuesday, 3/12, Wednesday, 3/13, or Friday, 3/15 between 7:50 a.m. - 8:20 a.m.  Please note that all team members do not have to come the same day, but all need to shoot the free throws by Friday, 3/15.

Congratulations to the DI Divas for qualifying for the state DI tournament!  We are very happy for you!

Ms. Costello's and Ms. Condon's Design Thinking Intramural students had a lot of fun testing out games after school on Tuesday.

Come celebrate the Medfield community with friends, food, and fun! All are welcome!
