March 15, 2019 - Week 27

Hello Dale Street,

Wow...so many awesome things at #beproudbedale this week! Creation, innovation, wonderful learning and a cool school assembly. Take a peek....

In Ms. DiPesa's fourth grade classroom this week, students designed and collaborated on a marble run science challenge.  What a fun way to learn science!

Congratulations to our Positive Referral this week!

Ms. Carlyle's fifth grade students had a blast using their student-made fraction games this week.  Very innovative!

Thanks to Ryan in Mrs. Ross' class for reading today's book recommendation.  Ryan recommended I Survived the Battle of Gettysburg by Lauren Tarshis for "someone who likes extreme wars."  Ryan rated this book 4.5 out of 5 stars!  Thanks Ryan!
On Thursday, one of Dale Street's former rock star teachers, Mrs. Curran visited Ms. Condon's fifth grade classroom to read a story.  Once a teacher, always a teacher.  Thank you Mrs. Curran!

The Grade 5 KNO is tonight, Friday, 3/15, from 7-8:30pm.  Click here for the permission slip and details.

The Grade 4 KNO is on Friday, 3/22, from 7-8:30pm.  Click here for the permission slip and details.

THANK YOU!!!
The Winter Carnival was once again a huge success, bringing in around $17,000 for each of our K-5 schools! We can’t thank everyone enough for all the ways you contributed to the success of the Winter Carnival this year! Thank you for volunteering.  Thank you for donating. Thank you for sponsoring. Thank you for baking. Thank you for coming and enjoying time with family and friends. THANK YOU!!

The Dale Street School Site Council is requesting your feedback.  The following survey addresses many topics, including technology, homework, communication, curriculum and culture.  The information from this survey will be used when creating Dale Street's next School Improvement Plan.  We truly value your feedback and thank you in advance for your time in completing this brief 2 minute survey.  Please respond by March 29th.

On a visit to Mrs. Lowerre's fifth grade classroom today, students were involved in predicting how much fresh water is available on Earth as a kick off to their water cycle unit.  Can't wait to see what's next!

Parent/teacher conferences begin next week. Conferences are a wonderful time to check in with your child's teacher about their academic and social/emotional growth. Conference dates are set for Thursday, March 21st and Tuesday, March 26th. Both days are half days for the students with dismissal at 11:40 a.m. Please note that Term II report cards will be sent home on Tuesday, March 19th.

Thank you to our Friday DJ who rocked the lunchroom today!

Here’s an easy way to say "thanks" to Dale's teachers!  Teachers have indicated wished-for classroom supply items on tags hanging from a “tree” (see above) in the front hallway. When you’re in the building for conferences, feel free to grab a tag or two from your child’s teacher or any of the specialist teachers to fulfill some of their wishes during the month of March!

On Tuesday, Ms. Isaacson's fourth grade classroom ventured down to the Makerspace to create artifacts that will accompany their North America presentations.  Great work!

Round 3 (the Sweet Sixteen) of our March Madness Tournament will be held next week.  Round 2 scores will be tabulated on Monday morning and students will be notified at lunch.  Students and staff who make it to Round 3 will need to shoot 10 free throws during one of the following days: Wednesday, 3/20, or Friday, 3/22, between 7:50 a.m. - 8:20 a.m.  Please note that all team members do not have to come the same day, but all need to shoot the free throws by Friday, 3/22.

Did you know that members of the Harlem Wizards dropped by Dale Street on Tuesday morning to say hello?  There was a great turnout for their game at the high school on Tuesday night.  Thanks to our Dale Street teachers who participated: Mr Mason, Ms. Laughna and  Ms. Hayes.

Holliston has collaborated with surrounding districts to bring the Special Olympics to the Holliston High School Field House on Friday, March 22, 2019. The event will held from 9:15-12:15.

Several Medfield students will be participating in the Special Olympics. If you and your child are interested in attending to support our athletes, transportation must be provided by the parent. If you and your child choose to attend, please let the office know so the morning absence will be considered ‘Excused’. This can be done by choosing “Late Arrival” in the School Dismissal Manager and add Special Olympics in the note section.

Your student will be expected to return to school by 12:45.  If you choose to keep your student out of school for the afternoon, the remainder of the day will be considered ‘Unexcused’.

Medfield School Nurses

Please follow them @MedfieldNurses on Twitter for health updates and information.

Please join us Tuesday, March 19th at 7pm in the Blake Library to hear Mary Bruhl, Director of Student Services, discuss her entry plan and MA DESE Coordinate Program Review updates. And come support our student athletes at the 5 town Special Olympics event hosted by Holliston High School on March 22nd! This week, students in Ms. Costello's fifth grade classroom took a deeper look at volume.  Students used their created juices and developed comics of real world problems where a character needed to find the volume of a rectangular prism.  So cool!
