January 11, 2019 - Week 19

Hello Dale Street!

What a spectacular week at #beproudbedale!  It is such a pleasure and a joy to work with your amazing children each day.  Take a look at some of the things that took place this first full week of 2019.

This week Grade 5 students had the wonderful opportunity to design and develop just like engineers do as they participated in a "Designing for Wind" EcoTarium workshop.  This phenomenal, interactive opportunity was made possible by the fabulous generosity of the MCPE's Traveling Science Fund-A-Grant.  Thank you so much!

Dale Street had a phenomenal MLK performance this morning.  Interactive storytellers engaged students and staff sharing the story of Martin Luther King Jr. and other individuals associated with MLK.  Special thanks to our wonderful PTO for funding this awesome performance.

On a visit to Ms. DiPesa's fourth grade classroom this week, students worked with their teacher and with peers to gain a deeper understanding of equivalent fractions.
Great work!

Check out what this talented student created.  He created a LEGO candy machine that accepts real coins and pushes out real candy.  So AWESOME!

Science alert......students in Mr. Douglas' fourth grade classroom spent time this week sending and receiving Morse Code messages using switches, telegraph keys, and light bulbs.  #talentedstudents

On February 8, MCPE will host its Annual Trivia Night. Gather your team and get ready to show your collective brainpower. This year's event will be held at Primavera in Millis. In a fun change of format, teams can have up to 8 people, so the competition should be even more lively this year! Registration opens Friday, January 11th!  More details about Trivia night and how to register will be coming soon on our website (www.medfieldcoalition.org). Please contact: ambrooslin@aol.com if you have questions about this changed format.

Special thanks to Superintendent, Dr. Marsden who visited today's PTO meeting.  Dr. Marsden was in attendance to discuss the FY '20 budget.  Thank you to everyone who came to the meeting.  If you would like to see the initial budget presentation, you can view it here.

Congratulations and thank you to our Friday Lunch DJ's!  These three students selected some great tunes to play during each one of the lunches today.

Check out the Patriots Spirit at Dale Street today!  GO PATS!!!!!

In Ms. Bertschmann's fifth grade classroom this week, students participated in math stations using HyperDocs created be their teacher.  When I asked one student how they liked learning this way, her response..."It's awesome!  It lets me go at my own pace." Awesome!

Thanks to Lucy in Ms. Hayes' class for reading today's book recommendation.  Lucy recommended The War that Saved My Life by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley, for "someone who loves mysteries and sad books with happy endings."  Lucy rated this book '5 stars!'  Thanks Lucy!

Check out this week's PTO update.  The next PTO meeting will be held at Dale Street on January 11 at 9:30 a.m.

SAVE THE DATE!

The 2019 Winter Carnival is taking place on March 9.  This is our biggest fundraiser of the year and such a fun event!

Students in Miss. Carlyle's fifth grade classroom collaborated in teams to try and 'crack the code' while completing a fraction BreakoutEdu.  #makinglearningfun

We are a kid friendly blood drive. Parents with smaller children, for you we will have a children’s section in the gym, run by a high school student who specializes in early childhood education.

Finally, the students plan on baking you an amazing array of goods for the recovery table in thanks for your generous donation. The Red Cross will gift you with an  e-voucher to Dunkin, not to mention the numerous lives saved. It’s a win, win, and on behalf of the Blake committee we really hope to see you there.

On Thursday, students in Ms. Costello's fifth grade class worked in the library with Library-Media Specialist. Mrs. Cowell to dive deeper into their informational research projects.  These students were so focused and so driven - and what wonderful ideas!

In Ms. Sager's fifth grade Health class, students collaborated to work on an 'effects of nicotine' project.  Students researched individually with the help of Health teacher, Ms. Laughna and then teamed up to create projects (poster/a commercial/a slide show) to demonstrate their learning.
Math Challenge 7 is available now! Visit mathinaction.org/dale-st-school… to print the problems. Paper copies available in room 9. Solutions due 1/14!
