September 14, 2018 - Week 3

Happy Friday Dale Street!

Although it was a short school week, there was a lot accomplished and a lot to be proud of at #beproudbedale.  Take a minute to scroll through and take a peek.

As I tweeted out earlier this week, Wednesday night's PIN was an awesome evening that highlighted the importance of the family and school partnership. We are so lucky to have had such great attendance on Wednesday night.  Thank you to all who came out to learn about your child's classroom.  If you were not able to make it to PIN, please be sure to check out this slideshow located on our homepage.

If you were not in attendance at the parent presentation prior to the classroom visits, I wanted to share some information I imparted to families:

  • I asked parents to check in with the classroom teacher first if there is a suspected problem.  Many times these suspected problems can be resolved quickly once there is clarification provided by the classroom teacher.
  • We spent some time talking about the importance of social and emotional wellness among our students and staff members.  I shared with families that I have encouraged all staff to "go dark" and stay off technology (i.e. emails) after 6:00 p.m.  Staff members work so very hard all day and providing them time to spend with family, pets, and/or hobbies/interests will help them decompress and de-stress.  Providing staff an opportunity to de-stress will undoubtedly ensure students have more fresh and well-adjusted staff members each day.
Congratulations to this week's Positive Referrals!  These students truly exemplify what Dale Street stands for!  Way to go!
Brendan spent his entire recess cleaning up the recess field without even being asked!
Evangeline displayed compassion by standing up for someone else!
Sophie also displayed compassion by standing up for someone else!
Sam also spent his entire recess cleaning up the recess field without even being asked!

Mrs. Ross' fourth grade students entertained a challenge this week: creating a world map using only paper and glue.  These fantastic students modeled and used Dale Street's Core Values to get this done.  Well done!

Our new dismissal system, School Dismissal Manager is off to a very good start.  Thank you to all who have downloaded the app and logged in and taken time to get familiar with the new system.  In order for the program to run as efficiently and effectively as possible we are asking all families to:
  • make sure that you get an email confirmation when you change a "defaulted" dismissal
  • please make all dismissal arrangements prior to 1:30 p.m.  Doing this drastically minimizes dismissal mistakes and minimizes classroom disruptions that impact student learning.
  • contact Mrs. Barrett or Mrs. Infantino if you have any questions regarding School Dismissal Manager or need any assistance with the program.
Dale Street's Little Free Library, donated by the 2018 Medfield Community Warriors, was revealed this week. Thank you so much to this amazing group! We are so looking forward to it getting a lot of use.

Students in Mrs. Foley's and Ms. Condon's fifth grade classes took time this week to learn more about their 'digital footprints.'  This is such an important topic, especially with the amount of social media out there these days.

PTO Class Directories
This year we will be using a Google Form to gather information for classroom directories. It is optional to fill out the form, however only those who choose to participate will be included in the class directory and receive information about class celebrations from their Room Parents. We have extended the deadline and all form entries must now be received by Sunday, September 16, 2018. Directories will be emailed to those parents who have chosen to participate. Please note - Each class directory will only include the children in that specific class. Follow this link to complete the class directory form. Please reach out to Carrie Quinlan with questions.

Welcome to the start of a new school year and another year of A+ School Rewards.  Beginning September 7, 2018 and running through to March 16, 2019, Dale Street will have the opportunity to earn cash through the Stop & Shop A+ School Rewards Program. Registration for this school year has begun and you may support up to (2) two schools.

If you are a NEW supporter (or interested in making a change to your existing account) please read the attached letter on how to register. Please note that you DO NOT need to re-register your card if your school selection(s) remains the same as last year!

Dale Street’s Code to earn A+ bonus bucks is  07395

What a blast it has been this week and last!  I have had the great fortune of reading in each classroom here at Dale Street. I have been reading What Do You Do With A Problem by Kobi Yamada to our fourth and fifth graders.  We have had some wonderful conversations about how to face up to and deal with a problem. We also talked about how so many of our problems contain an opportunity. Please ask you child(ren) how they liked the book.

There is no school on Wednesday, September 19th

 in observance of Yom Kippur.

Enjoy your weekend with your family and friends!
