March 9, 2018 - Week 26

Dear Dale Street,

Mother Nature has done it again and cut our week short.  Although we only had four days this week, there was plenty of awesomeness on display at #beproudbedale.  Take a look....

What a night last night was!  Award winning author, Kwame Alexander visited Medfield to share his inspirational messages: Never give up and always trying to get to yes.  A huge thank you to Library Media Specialist, Mrs. Cowell for organizing this visit and the very generous MCPE for making it a reality!

Yesterday's Principal's Coffee has been rescheduled for Friday, March 16th.  During this time, we will talk about the process we will use for placing students in classrooms for 2018-2019 school year and students from the SWAT team will be showcasing Google Classroom and Seesaw highlighting how parents can access student assignments. The coffee will begin at 8:45 a.m. in the Dale Street cafeteria.  Click here to RSVP.  Please note that if you are stuck for child care, please feel free to bring your little ones.  I hope that you will be able to stop in after you drop off your child(ren) on this day.  We will be providing refreshments for this presentation.

On Wednesday, students in Ms. Condon's class and Mrs. Curran's class presented their WWII reports to families and guests.  Their 'Research Share' included topic presentations as well as artifacts that symbolized their topic.  Great work, young learners!

Check out the PTO update including information about 'Supply Mittens' for teachers, the Winter Carnival on March 10th, the upcoming PTO meeting on March 14th and more!

PTO Snowman Supply Tree

What: Families can pick a mitten off the door/board to donate a needed supply for Dale Street staff members

When: February 26th - March 23rd

Where: Mittens will be hung on doors of classroom teachers.  Specialists and Special Education teachers will have a spot in the main foyer where their mittens will be hung.

Congratulations to these Dale Street students for winning the "Lunch Menu" contest.  These students will be serving lunch during the day their lunch is served at school.

This week Grade 5 students in Mrs. Foley's class took a "trip" to visit the 7 Wonders of the World.  How you may ask.....pretty easy with our MCPE funded virtual reality viewfinders.  What an awesome learning tool!

Ever thought about joining the MCPE board? Now's the time! If you are interested in possibly becoming a member of the MCPE Board, we would love to hear from you. We're looking for candidates who can commit to a 3 year term, attend Board meetings once a month during the school year and have an active interest in enriching our kids' education in the Medfield Public Schools.

We are especially looking for dedicated individuals who may have experience in publicity (print, social media and otherwise), website maintenance/design, graphics, fundraising events and corporate sponsorship. We try to have board members with children across the five schools and could use more representation from Blake and MHS. Visit our website for more details and to submit your interest. Thanks!

Congratulations to Charlie for having his design selected for the 'Digital Recognition Certificate' for the companies who support tomorrow's PTO Winter Carnival.  Well done!

Dale Street's 1st Annual March Madness Free Throw Shooting Contest begins Monday, March 12th.  If your student signed up to be on a team, please plan on bringing your child in on Monday, 3/12, Tuesday, 3/13, or Wednesday, 3/14, between 7:50-8:20am so he/she can shoot the 10 free throws for Round 1. All team members do not need to be present to shoot free throws. Anyone wearing Medfield apparel will get 1 bonus shot per article of clothing (max 2 items). The teams with the most free throws (out of 30) will move on to the next round. Shooting times for Round 2 will be announced soon.

Congratulations to these #beproudbedale students for winning Dale Street's Read Across America raffle.  Library Media Specialist organized this fun raffle that was tied into our LMC's 'Tournament of Books.'
On Wednesday, teachers got together to collaborate about literacy, discuss current research, and highlight best practices of reader's workshop.
Thanks to Genna in Mr. Douglas' class for reading today's book recommendation. Genna recommended Maxi's Secret by Lynn Plourde for "everyone" because "it is exciting, scary, sometimes sad, sometimes happy all at the same time."  Genna rated this book 5 stars!  Thanks Genna!

Parent/teacher conferences begin next week. Conferences are a wonderful time to check in with your child's teacher about their academic and social/emotional growth. Conference dates are set for Thursday, March 15th and Tuesday, March 20th. Both days are half days for the students with dismissal at 11:40 a.m.. Please note that Term II report cards will be sent home on Monday, March 23rd.

There was some fancy dining going on at Dale Street today.  We celebrated Brooke's MCPE raffle prize with lunch, flowers, and candles.  Special thanks to Mrs. Barrett for making this lunch extraordinary!

The Dale Street Talent Show will be held tonight, Friday, March 9th in the Dale Street Gym at 6:30pm.  Tickets are $5 (cash or check made out to Medfield Field Hockey).  Performers do not need a ticket.  We hope you can make it!

The 2018-19 School Calendar has been approved by School Committee.

Band-O-Rama - Tuesday, March 13th - Blake Middle School (7 p.m.)
