March 29, 2018 - Week 29

Greetings Dale Street Community!

It was a wonderful week here at #beproudbedale this week.  Personally, I had the great privilege of hearing retired General Colin Powell this week at the ASCD (Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development) conference in Boston. His comment, "The only thing I can focus on now is the future, and the future is our children" really resonated with me.  Coming to Dale Street every day to work with amazing students and staff is so inspiring and is truly an honor.  Take a peek at some of the great things from this week...

A very special thank you to Kelly Wysocki, Amanda Spears, all of the volunteers and all of the families who supported the Winter Carnival.  The Dale Street PTO will be receiving $16,500 from the Winter Carnival proceeds!  This is amazing and all of us at Dale Street are so very appreciative!

Last Friday our 4th graders had a fantastic time at the Kids' Night Out!  The Olympic themed night was filled with awesome games, great prizes, and fun music.  Special thanks to our fantastic PTO and all of the parent volunteers.

Students in Grade 5 were amazed by the various experiments when the Discovery Museum visited this week. Students participated in activities and discussions regarding the various states of matter and their phase changes.  Special thanks to our very generous PTO for funding this wonderful experience.

MCPE is currently accepting nominations for the Robert C. Maguire "Global Perspectives in Education" Award.  This award is given annually to a staff member who inspires students to look beyond the town of Medfield and expand their horizons.  Learning about the global community could include efforts in world history, politics, science, technology, literature, mathematics, economics, sociology, anthropology and more.  If your child has been enriched by such a teacher, please visit our website www.medfieldcoalition.org to complete the nomination form.  Deadline for submissions is April 27.

Registration for the grade 2-5 spelling bee opens on Monday April 2nd at 9am.  Have your children gather some friends and one parent will register teams of 3-4 students (2 person teams are allowed - see our website for details). This is always an exciting event for the kids and does sell out so please don't delay.  Visit our website to register www.medfieldcoalition.org

Thanks to Elizabeth in Ms. Condon's class for reading today's book recommendation. Elizabeth recommended Smile by Raina Telgemeier for "anyone who likes easy reads" and because "you feel like a character in the book."  Elizabeth rated this book 5 stars!  Thanks Elizabeth!

letter was sent out today offering parents the opportunity to share information about their son/daughter for next year’s placement at Dale Street.  The information that you share will be used to assist me with the student placement process for the 2018 – 2019 school year.  When corresponding about placement, parents are asked to focus on the type of learning environment that best meets the strengths and needs of their child.  Please know that throughout the placement process our focus will be on placing your child in a classroom in which they will grow both academically and socially.

Dear Medfield Public School Families,

I hope that you are all doing as well as possible, given the tough weather recently.  I sent out an email on November 8th, 2017 introducing INTERFACE Referral Services. Since that time, I have spoken with many parents who may not have seen that email, so I thought I would resend the information, in an effort to spread the word!

Medfield is excited to announce that the Medfield Public Schools and the town have contracted with INTERFACE Referral Services.  INTERFACE is a telephone helpline, staffed by clinicians at William James College, that will serve to eliminate obstacles for Medfield community members across the lifespan, as they seek mental health services.  INTERFACE is available for all residents of the town, regardless of age, and comes at no cost for individual families.

The INTERFACE Helpline is open and active Monday through Friday, from 9:00AM - 5:00PM.  Callers will work with a Resource and Referral Counselor who will help them navigate the challenges of finding mental health services.  Each caller will be assigned a lead counselor who will provide matches to services. The service will also help find a provider who accepts their insurance and is available for new patients.  A match will be located within no more than two weeks time. INTERFACE takes care to attempt, to the best of their ability, to match clients not only with a mental health professional, but one who specializes in the area of concern, within the geographic region desired. Please note that this is not an emergency psychiatric crisis center.  For emergency situations, please call Riverside Community Care Crisis Unit at 781-769-8674 or 800-529-5077.

For more information about the INTERFACE Referral Service, please visit the INTERFACE website.  I have provided links and websites that may be helpful as you become better acquainted with the process.  This information is also on the medfieldsel.com website, which has articles, resources, and information about all things SEL.

To access the INTERFACE Helpline, please call:

Monday - Friday, 9:00AM - 5:00PM

Sincerely,

Dave Worthley, Ed,D.

We hope everyone who celebrates Easter or Passover has a wonderful holiday!
