February 16, 2018 - Week 24

Greetings Dale Street Families!

WOW!  Spectacular week here at #beproudbedale!  Take a peek.....

I'm sure that many of you have been watching the Olympics over the past week.  Very exciting for sure!  Just as exciting for me was watching our fourth grade students and staff participate in an integrated Olympic week here at Dale Street.  Students took time this week to read about the history of the Olympics, learn more about South Korea (the location of this year's Winter Olympics, collaborated in a STEM (science, technology, engineering, & math) bobsled activity, and participated in a curling (measurement) activity.  Fourth grade students and staff definitely earned a Gold Medal this week!

On Thursday, students in Ms. Condon's fifth grade class took time to 'explore' some of their WWII topics and traveled to ancient Mayan and Aztec ruins as well as Outer Space and various National Parks!  So cool!  Thanks MCPE for funding this amazing opportunity for our students and staff!

Thank you to all who donated to the Medfield Animal Shelter.  Students in Mr. Mason's class helped load Mrs. Carey's car so these generous donations could be dropped off today.  Dale Street is such a compassionate community!

Positive Referrals!!!
These students received a Positive Referral this week for demonstrating exceptional positivity, compassion, and flexibility. Great job!

Check out the PTO update which includes information about the class Box Tops competition, the March 10th Winter Carnival, upcoming PTO meetings and more!

PTO Snowman Supply Tree

So cool....this week students in Ms. Bertschmann class used Flipgrid to share out their understanding during reader's workshop.  Special thanks to their resident expert, Adeline!

MCPE is pleased to be co-sponsoring this incredible author to speak in Medfield. Space is going fast so please reserve space for you and your children today!

MCPE!
Students wasted no time utilizing these unbelievable MCPE funded reading stations.
On Monday evening, members of the Dale Street SWAT (Students Working to Advance Technology) were invited to the School Committee meeting to present on the staff faculty meeting the students facilitated last month.  These young learners did a phenomenal job!

On a visit to Miss Isaacson's forth grade classroom on Thursday, students worked on persuasive essays.  Students worked on writing pieces that tried to convince readers with reasons and evidence.  And look who also took time to visit...Director of Finance and Operations, Mr. LaFrancesca.

Thanks to Maren in Mrs. Flynn's class for reading today's book recommendation. Maren recommended Dork Diaries by Rachel Renee Russel for "people who like realistic fiction books" because "it talks about real life problems and it's full of fun and suspense."  Maren rated this book 5 stars!  Thanks Maren!

On Tuesday, Mrs. Foley's class demonstrated 2 of Dale Street's Core Values, collaboration and continuous growth while teaching Ms. DiPesa's fourth grade class how to make ePortfolios with GoogleSites.  Bravo!

On Friday, students in Mrs. Lowerre's fifth grade class participated in a project based learning lesson: acting as a member of a committee to select and plan next year's field trip.  Awesome energy and collaboration in the room!

News from Mr. Vaughn at Blake

Dear Dale Street 5th Grade Parents/Guardians,
I hope this e-mail finds you well.  I am writing to let you know that we have scheduled the Incoming 6th Grade Parent Night for Wednesday, February 28 at 6:30 p.m. in the Blake auditorium.  This night is for all parents/guardians of incoming sixth grade (current fifth grade) students.  We will be presenting information about the 6th grade program of studies and curriculum, previewing the students' experience that they will have next year along with an overview of the middle school.  A more detailed presentation about the logistics of the 2018-2019 academic year's iPad Program will take place during this evening as well.
We hope you will be able to make the presentation and look forward to seeing you.  As always, please do not hesitate to contact me (nvaughn@email.medfield.net) or any of our staff with any questions or concerns.
Take care. Nat Vaughn

We hope that you enjoy some time with your family and friends during February break.  There will be no school for students on Monday, February 19th through Friday, February 23rd. Students will return to school on Monday, February 26, 2018.

 Have an awesome vacation!
