September 2, 2016 - Week 1

Dear Dale Street Families,

The start of school went very smoothly over the last few days, and students have settled in to their new classrooms.  We know it is going to be a great year!  Please take a minute and read the detailed information below. These topics are some of the important areas that will help you and your family transition smoothly into the 2016 – 2017 school year.  Thank you in advance for your continued support.

SCHOOL INFORMATION

  • We will continue to use the Dale Street blog to communicate the wonderful events that take place in our school each day.   The Dale Street blog can be found on our homepage.  Hard copies will be available for those without internet access.
  • You are always encouraged to visit your school’s website by going to http://www.medfield.net/dale.html
  • We will continue to use Twitter and I can be followed @s_grenham
  • We will also use the Remind App to share school information this year.  The Remind App sends out a text to all who have signed up for the service.  Text 508-640-7746 and in the body of the text message type @dalestr  You will get a response asking you to confirm your identity - reply with your first and last name.  This is a secure and confidential way for me to send you a text message.  I do not see your cell number and you do not see mine.

ARRIVAL
  • Dale Street staff will supervise a morning recess from 8:10 a.m. until the first bell at 8:20 a.m. Students riding the bus will be dropped off on the Dale Street side of the building and proceed on the sidewalk to the playground.  Students driven to school should be dropped off at the specified location in the parking lot located between Dale Street School and the Pfaff Center and proceed to the playground.  Please help us reduce traffic congestion and confusion by having your child(ren) ready to exit your vehicle when you arrive at the designated drop off area. On days when we have inclement weather, parents should drop off in the same location.  Grade 4 students will be directed to the cafeteria, and Grade 5 students will be directed to the gymnasium. We have created this video to assist families with this new procedure.  As a reminder, there will not be any supervision until 8:10 a.m.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation and support.

DISMISSAL

  • If you plan on picking up your child(ren) at dismissal, please wait outside door number 14, which is located off the gymnasium next to the parking lot.  Dale Street personnel will have a sign out sheet for parents/guardians to sign before a student will be dismissed.  Please remember to send in a green slip with your child if you are planning on having him/her picked-up after school.  The dismissal bell rings at 2:55 p.m.  Therefore, students will not arrive at the dismissal location until approximately 3:00 p.m./3:05 p.m.  Please plan your pick up accordingly.  Students who are walking at dismissal will be dismissed once all the buses have left the school.

Students thoroughly enjoyed visiting the newly remodeled Library Media Center. We are so grateful to our extremely generous MCPE for the wonderful grant!

We are presently looking for individuals who would like to volunteer to serve on the Dale Street School School Council.  Meetings will be held on October 13th, January 19th, March 23rd, and May 25th at 3:15 p.m. in the Dale Street Library Media Center. Please contact the Dale Street office (508) 359 - 5538 if you are interested.

Again this year, the Dale Street School will have a Student Advisory Council.  The objective of this group will be to talk with their classmates about concerns/initiatives in their classroom and/or the school.  The Student Advisory Council will consist of one student from each homeroom in Grades 4 and 5. There will also be an alternate selected from each homeroom.  Students interested in serving on the Student Advisory Council must write a one paragraph letter of interest.  This letter of interest will be distributed on Friday, September 9th and must be received by the close of school on September 16th.  The Student Advisory Council will meet on the first Friday of each month (starting in October) at 8:45 AM for about 35 minutes.  I would like to thank Mrs. Vancura and Mrs. Carey who have volunteered again to work with me on the Dale Street School Advisory Council.

A message from the Music Department........
Instrument Rental Night will be Tuesday, September 6 at MHS from 5:30-8pm.

Dale Street encourages you to join us in modeling three key messages:

School is important!
Your child can do it!
We are here to help him/her!

Thank you for reading this week's blog.  Please check back again next Friday.

Sincerely,
Steve
