October 6, 2023 - Week 6

Hi Dale Street Community,

We just completed a great and busy week at #beproudbedale. It was filled with plenty of collaboration and enthusiasm. Please take a few minutes to look over this week's blog as it will help keep you informed as we move together through next week and beyond.

There is no school on Monday, October 9th
in observance of Columbus/Indigenous Peoples' Day.

Congratulations to this week's Positive Referrals!

This week, students in Mrs. Flynn's fourth-grade class began their North America map research project.  Students learned and collaborated with Mrs. Lowerre in the #beproudbedale Makerspace! Can't wait to see the progression of this activity!

Upcoming Webinar
We are excited to invite you to an upcoming Principal's webinar focused on the important topic of social competencies in the three Elementary Schools. This webinar aims to provide valuable insights and strategies to support your child's social development, both at school and at home.

Date: Wednesday, October 11th, 2023
Time: 4:15 p.m.
Zoom Link:
Passcode: 530331

Can't make it at that exact time? No worries! We understand that schedules can be busy, so we will be recording the webinar for your convenience. The recording will be made available for families who are unable to attend the live event. We encourage all
parents and guardians to join us. If you have a specific question you would like addressed, please share it on this form by Monday, October 9th. Thank you for your continued partnership in your child's education. We hope to see you on
October 11th.

It is always great to have Dr. Marsden visit Dale.  Students love sharing their learning and ideas with him!

Positive Sign Thursday!

'YOU CAN DO HARD THINGS!'

On Monday, Dale Street celebrated School Custodian Appreciation Day.  We are blessed to Mr. Johnson, Mr. Wilson, and Ms. Rubio for keeping our school and classrooms safe and clean! Your hard work creates a wonderful learning environment for our students and staff.

As our Lost and Found bin grows, please take a moment to label your child’s
belongings. We have several water bottles, sweatshirts, and coats that remain
unclaimed. Thank you in advance for your help.

On Tuesday, students in Mrs. Gutierrez's fourth-grade class used stream tables to model weathering, erosion, and deposition.  Students also tested a flood source and slope. Great hands-on activity!

Over the last few weeks, I have been visiting classrooms to share a read-aloud - Maybe by Kobi Yamada.  It is a wonderful book with a terrific message: the importance of embracing what is possible. This book also highlights one of Dale Street’s Core Values, ‘Continuous Growth’ - celebrating the way failure is just the beginning of the journey.  Definitely one of the highlights of my job!

Dale Street's picture make-up/retake day is on Friday, October 20th.

Come join us for a fun night that celebrates reading!  There will be interactive activities, guest readers, and a great book fair shopping experience with books from our own Park St Books. (20% of book sales will go back to our schools.) Also, the Hot Dog Wagon will be on-site to make dinner easy that night!

I continue to be amazed at the talents of our Dale Street Rockstars. Check out the first few 5th-grade self-portraits of the year. Students focused on facial proportions and creating an image that describes them.  Bravo!

Student Drop-Off Reminders

In the morning, students should visit the playground (if the weather cooperates) after they exit the bus, are dropped off, or put their bike in the bike rack.  If you are dropping off or your child is riding their bike to school, please remember that there is no supervision until 8:10 a.m.  We ask that you do not drop off prior to this time.  Thank you!

This week in Reader’s Workshop, Ms. Isaacson's fourth-grade class worked with Dale Street Reading Specialist, Mrs. Callahan to read picture books and pick out character traits that describe the characters.
