November 18, 2022 - Week 12

Dear Dale Street Families,

As we approach Thanksgiving, it is so important to take a moment to give thanks for all that we have. I want to thank all our families for entrusting us with your children and the support you give us every day.  We are grateful!

Congratulations and thank you to Mrs. Ross' and Mrs. Seaver's class for facilitating yesterday's SEL assembly. Students highlighted respectful ways to move throughout the building.  Students also sought the help of staff members to show how not to move throughout Dale Street. Wonderful job, everyone!

In Mrs. Scott's fourth-grade class this week, students sketched diagrams and used them to write down facts they learned from their narrative nonfiction read-aloud. Well done, young learners!

Congratulations to this week's Positive Referral!

Positive Sign Thursday!

'WE ARE THANKFUL!'

This week, Grade 4 students in Ms. Plympton's class used mathematical thinking as they explored which equation to use as they solved some challenging problems. #perserverance

Thanks to our Friday DJs who kept the lunchroom rockin' today.

2023 TESTING SCHEDULE
Dale Street's testing schedule is set for the spring.  As always it is most important that students attend school on the days of testing, so please plan appointments in a way that does not interfere with your child being in school on the following testing dates:

ELA Testing

Grade 4 April 4th and April 5th

Grade 5 April 10th and April 11th

STE Testing

Grade 5 May 9th and May 10th

Math

Grade 4 May 11th and May 12th

Grade 5 May 17th and May 18th

On Wednesday, I had the great opportunity to visit Mrs. Dowd's fourth-grade class and watch Dale Street Technology Integrationist, Mr. Ahern share an awesome Ozobot activity. A big thank you to the MCPE for funding this awesome educational tool! #coding

We have an extensive Lost & Found in front of the Main Office. Please have your child check to see if any of the items belong to them. Any unclaimed items will be donated after Wednesday, November 23rd. Thank you!

Although the weather was certainly a little cooler this week, students had a blast on Tuesday playing Gold Rush outside with Mrs. Nawrocki in PE.

THANK YOU to those of you who attended the 2022 MCPE Fall Ball. What a party! Thanks to your generosity, MCPE raised $30,000 that will go directly to fund grants supporting Medfield’s amazing teachers, staff, and students.

At the Fall Ball, MCPE announced its 35th Anniversary Appeal - a special campaign that happens every five years to raise additional funds for Medfield Public Schools. This year, we’re asking the Medfield community to come together in raising $100,000 to support each school’s “Reach for the Stars” projects. Check out this video that features the administrators of all five Medfield schools discussing these special projects. MCPE, through the generosity of the Medfield community, has spent the past 35 years supporting the Medfield Schools - we cannot wait to make the five ideas in this video a reality with your help! We hope that we'll have your support as we work toward our goal of funding all five of these important and much-needed improvements to our schools. Please consider donating today.

THANK YOU!

On Monday, fourth-grade students in Ms. DiPesa's class worked on identifying types of narrative nonfiction using sketchnoting and the book, The Crayon Man. Great discussions and great learning!

Huge thank you to this season's Girls on the Run group.  Recently, this group completed a service project to paint kindness rocks to spread around Dale Street and donate to the Medfield animal shelter.  I am proud of them and grateful that they volunteered to beautify our school and participate in this act of kindness.

This week in World Language with Señora LeVangie, Grade 4 students led the class and shared el calendario (calendar)!  The students were fantastic teachers!

On Tuesday, Marcia Parks (Sagan’s grandmother - an author and retired teacher) visited Mrs. Scott's fourth-grade class to share her writing journey with the class. She read one of her many manuscripts and talked about the writing process. Students were able to ask her lots of questions about what it is like to be a writer and how she comes up with her ideas for stories. She also shared real-life critiques that she received and how they helped her to revise her writing.

Covid Test Kits
As we are heading into the holiday season and the Department of Public
Health is tracking an increase nationally in respiratory illnesses, the Department of
Elementary and Secondary Education has provided schools with free home Covid tests. Two tests will be sent home with each student between today and next Tuesday, November 22nd, and another two before the December holiday. These tests are to be used at your discretion before school, as needed, should your child be exhibiting symptoms. Please note that this program is completely optional and there is no need to send in any results. If you would prefer that your child not receive any tests to bring home, please contact Dale Street School Nurse, Mrs. Kathy Thompson (kthompson@email.medfield.net). Please see our Covid Guidelines or contact Mrs. Thompson if you have any further questions.

Thank you to all who helped make today's spirit day magical!
