October 7, 2022 - Week 6

Happy Friday Dale Street Families,

As we begin our second month of the school year, I want to thank you for your ongoing support and let you know of the outstanding work that our students and staff are doing on a daily basis.  They are representing our Core Values – Respect, Compassion, Collaboration, and Continuous Growth - on a daily basis!  Here are some of the great things that happened this week at #beproudbedale.

Congratulations to this week's Positive Referrals!

Diana was recognized for being extremely helpful and Respectful.

Leah was recognized for modeling Continuous Growth.

Zack was recognized as being Collaborative.

Charley was recognized as being Collaborative

This week, Grade 4 classes visited Dale Street's Library-Media Specialist, Mrs. Lowerre in the Makerspace.  Students enjoyed collaborating as they identified important physical features of North America. Check out some of the great work from Mr. Douglas', Ms. DiPesa's, and Ms. Plympton's students.

Elementary Spirit Day

Friday, October 14th, is School Spirit Day.  Dress in Medfield gear or Medfield colors!

Positive Sign Thursday!

'YOU INSPIRE!'

On Monday, Dale Street celebrated School Custodian Appreciation Day.  We are blessed to have these individuals on our team (missing 1 in the photo). Thank you to Mr. Johnson, Mr. Wilson, and Mr. Bailey for keeping our school and classrooms safe and clean! Your hard work creates a wonderful learning environment for our students and staff.

Thank you to all the students who submitted suggestions on what to name the Lego figure in the library.  Did you know that the Lego figure is made with Everblocks?  These were funded with a very generous MCPE grant.  After much discussion, the name Dale was selected.  Thank you to Olivia in Mrs. Chamblin's class and Hadley in Ms. Sager's class for suggesting this name and to Library Media Specialist, Mrs. Lowerre and Library Assistant, Mrs. Knott for this creative idea!

Halloween at Dale Street

The Dale Street staff enjoys making Halloween a safe, exciting, and consistent experience for all students.  On Monday, October 31st, all of our classrooms:

  • encourage all students to dress up in their costumes.  Please note that students’ faces may not be covered with a mask, hood, or other items. Please do not allow your child to bring fake weapons into school to accompany his/her costume, and particularly violent themes should be avoided.  Additionally, please leave face paint at home.
  • will have Halloween-themed activities.  Activities will be teacher-directed and run throughout the morning.  The classroom teacher will reach out to head room parents if support is needed.
  • will have a 'Party in a Bag'.  Please have your child decorate (if they wish) or simply print their name on a brown paper bag. Please send in the brown bag on October 31st, filled with a few of your child’s favorite food items. Some examples are: juice box or mini water bottle, small salty snack, fun sweet snack (cupcake, cookie), additional items could be a piece of fruit, a small yogurt, or any additional healthy snack.  Adding a little note to your child's bag will definitely make them happy! Students' snack times and the Halloween-themed activities will take place at different times in the morning depending on each class' schedule.
We understand and are happy that the children may receive a plethora of treats on Halloween night. Come Tuesday, November 1st, the staff at Dale Street encourages healthy foods for student snack times to help promote optimal learning.  Thank you in advance for your continued support.

Yesterday, Dale Street participated in a bus evacuation.  All students (regardless of whether they ride the bus to and from school) participated in this important exercise.  Special thanks to our students, staff, bus drivers, and Officer Manganello for a successful drill.

Fall Ball tickets are still on sale and only 45 pairs of tickets are left! It has been a long four years since the last Fall Ball; though usually held biennially, the Fall Ball planned for 2020 was canceled due to Covid-19. We are all well overdue for a fabulous night! Held at Gillette Stadium, Fall Ball serves as the single largest fundraiser hosted by MCPE and is therefore critical to our ability to fund innovative educational grants that benefit Medfield schools. This year, Fall Ball will also serve as the kick-off for a special 35th Anniversary Appeal, which will fund ambitious projects in each of our five schools.

Fall Ball is also widely considered THE event of the Medfield social calendar. With heels and sequins, jackets and ties, drinks and dancing, Medfield parents regularly turn this educational fundraiser into a rollicking time. Fall Ball is a great chance to spend a special night out with a group of friends or neighbors, and to connect with other parents. Parents of seniors may find Fall Ball especially meaningful as they celebrate their child’s last year in the school system, and spend a memorable night with fellow parents of the class of 2023!

Did you know that MCPE is a nonprofit organization that supports the entire Pre-K-12 public school system in Medfield? We raise money through community events, corporate sponsorships, and special campaigns. The generosity of the Medfield community enables MCPE to provide monetary support for all schools through grants for specific projects and initiatives that support the development of innovative programs, curriculum, and enrichment that would otherwise be outside the parameters of the school budget. Here are some fun examples of recent MCPE-funded projects that Medfield kids are benefitting from right now!

  • Science & Engineering Visiting Science Unit at Dale Street School, providing five hands-on engineering lessons from visiting scientists for grade 5 students

  • Modernizing the LMC/Makerspace Learning Spaces at Blake Middle School, including purchase of a GlowForge 3D Printer and space-appropriate furniture

  • Funding for Numicon kits for each Kindergarten and grade 1 classroom, allowing our youngest learners to build a developmentally appropriate conceptual understanding of numbers.

This week, Grade 4 students used stream tables to observe how slope and the amount of water pressure develop landforms. Check out the scientists from Mrs. Scott's class and Ms. MacDonnell's class.

A fun Dale Street School event is returning this year… Movie night is back! A fun movie, treats, and friends - what could be better?!

Student Drop-Off Reminders

In the morning, students should visit the playground (if the weather cooperates) after they exit the bus, are dropped off, or put their bike in the bike rack.  If you are dropping off or your child is riding their bike to school, please remember that there is no supervision until 8:10 a.m.  We ask that you do not drop off prior to this time.  Thank you!

There is no school on Monday, October 10th

As our Lost and Found bin grows, please take a moment to label your child’s
belongings. We have several water bottles, sweatshirts, and coats that remain
unclaimed. Thank you in advance for your help.

Thank you for your continued support,

Steve
