May 6, 2022 - Week 33

 Dear Dale Street Families,

I hope that you all had a fabulous week! For us, it is true what they say - time flies when you are having fun!  For those who may not be aware, this week was Teacher Appreciation Week.  Please join me in thanking the fabulous staff members we have here at Dale Street.  I feel very proud and privileged to work every day with the most caring, intelligent, and dedicated staff.  They blow me away with all the things they do for our students every single day.

Emma was recognized for being kind and inclusive.

Elizabeth was recognized for demonstrating our Core Values of respect, compassion, and continuous growth.

Ethan was recognized for being inclusive and compassionate.

Positive Sign Thursday!

'WE ARE A-MAY-ZING!'

Next week marks the beginning of our literacy assessment period.  During this three-week period, our reading specialists (Mrs. Bassett and Mrs. Callahan) will be conducting the BAS (Benchmark Assessment System). Students in grades 4 & 5 may visit our reading room or an alternate location outside of their classroom to complete the short assessment.

On a visit to Mrs. Chamblin's fifth-grade class this week, students researched and created arguments - diving deeper into their persuasive writing.  Awesome job!

Medfield Community

This year's ANGP takes place on Sunday night, June 5th at 9:00 p.m. and goes until Monday morning, June 6th at 5:00 a.m.

It takes a village to make this night a success. We need almost 200 volunteers throughout the course of the night. As you know, family members of the Medfield Class of 2022 students cannot volunteer.  That is why we are reaching out to the entire Medfield community to help.  It is a fun experience you won’t want to miss.

Please sign up for shifts below. We will send you an email one week prior to the ANGP with all the details that you will need.

Please post or pass this sign-up along to friends.

ANGP Chaperone & Volunteer Sign-Up Genius

This week, Dale Street Technology Integrationist, Mr. Ahern visited fourth-grade classrooms to share how students can help themselves and others to be positive and safe while communicating online.  So important - so valuable!

After a two-year hiatus, the Dale Street PTO is excited to bring back Kids’ Night Out, with an indoor BEACH PARTY theme.

4th Grade KNO = Friday, May 13th
5th Grade KNO = May 20th

Both events will be held in Dale’s cafeteria from 7-8:30 PM. Students will enjoy a DJ with dancing, Games in the Gym, Guess How Many, Trivia, Refreshments, and more. Cash or check payable to the Dale PTO to be paid at the door (no pre-registration). This is a drop-off event, but we need the help of many parents to ensure the evening runs smoothly. Please view this permission slip for all of the details and to volunteer.

This week Ms. Isaacson's fourth-grade class had another informative and engaging lesson with our partners at SEED Science.  Students continued their unit on waves and in this lesson students focused on sound waves.  This awesome experience was made possible by a Massachusetts Cultural Council grant.

Upcoming MCAS Schedule:

May 11th and 12th - Grade 5 Math

May 17th and 18th - Grade 4 Math

May 19th and 20th - Grade 5 Science, Engineering, and Technology

*Make-ups will take place on an ongoing basis.

A HUGE thank you to our phenomenal PTO for their generosity this week during Staff Appreciation Week.  From snacks to treats, to an incredible lunch - the week was amazing!

On a visit to the Makerspace, Grade 5 students in Mrs. Ross' and Mrs. Seaver's class worked with Ms. Sweeney and used Pixton to create a scene from the book group book they are reading.  They will have a chance to read and respond to classmates' work.

On Tuesday, Director of Food Service, Ms. Fahey visited our Student Council meeting to listen to student feedback and share information about school lunches.  It was a great conversation with a lot of super ideas!

On behalf of all of the employees at Dale Street, I would like to wish all of the mothers, grandmothers, and mother figures a Happy Mother's Day!

Have a wonderful weekend,

Steve

Respect * Compassion * Collaboration * Continuous Growth
