April 1, 2022 - Week 29

Hello Dale Street Community,

I hope that you had a spectacular week - we sure did! We made it to April!  There is a lot packed into this week's blog - take a look at some of the awesomeness that students and staff were involved in this week.

This week in the Makerspace with Ms. Sweeney, Grade 5 students discussed how composters work.  Students collaborated to design composters and assessed how likely their composters would be to encourage decomposition.

Congratulations to this week's Positive Referral!

Simon was recognized for demonstrating Continuous Growth while handling a problem.

Jason was recognized for providing help and showing Compassion.

This week, Grade 5 students visited the Lowell National Historical Park. Students had the opportunity to travel back in time to the Industrial Revolution.   Students thoroughly enjoyed engineering, working on an assembly line, and weaving!  It was students first field trip in over two years - very exciting!

A HUGE thank you to our AMAZING PTO for funding these books.  Grade 5 has created a compare/contrast unit highlighting traditional novels and their graphic novel counterparts.  The teachers are over the moon and the students are going to love this!

In Tech Time with Mr. Ahern this week, Grade 4 students learned more about Dale Street's Acceptable Use Policy by collaborating to break out of a virtual escape room.  So important - So fun!

Positive Sign Thursday!
'WE ARE COLORFUL!'

The 5th Grade Yearbook Cover Contest will be accepting entries until April 11th.  Click here for all the details and guidelines for entries. Be creative!.

Thank you to all students and staff who participated in today's Spirit Day!  Students and staff in ties, tie-dye, and bow ties - awesome!

Thank you to everyone who attended last Wednesday's webinar focusing on placement for the 2022-2023 school year.  If you were unable to make it to the live presentation, here is a link to the recording.  The Passcode is: +#eC5U4Y.  If you would like to view the slide deck that was used during the presentation, you can find that here.

Yesterday, this letter was sent out to Grade 4 families offering parents the opportunity to share information about their son/daughter for next year’s placement at Dale Street.  The information that you share will be used to assist me with the student placement process for the 2022 – 2023 school year.  When corresponding about placement, parents are asked to focus on the type of learning environment that best meets the strengths and needs of their child.  Please know that throughout the placement process our focus will be on placing your child in a classroom in which they will grow both academically and socially.  Parent input narratives should be sent in no later than Friday, April 14th.  For other suggestions regarding the parent narrative, please see the slide deck link listed above.

The Medfield High School Student Council has planned a fun and important event.  Please click here to view the specific details.

Congratulations to the 15th Annual MCPE Spelling Bee Champions!!!

Wheelock Champions: The Three Syllables (3rd Grade) - Madison Crow, Josephine Jablonski, Charlotte Langdon

Dale Champions: The Spellcasters (4th Grade) - Owen Aronowitz, Alex Franke, Thomas Wirts

Thank you to all the families for your amazing support of the 15th Annual Medfield Coalition for Public Education Spelling Bee, sponsored by Medfield Orthodontics! 383 spellers from Wheelock and Dale took part in this year's comeback event! The competition was F-I-E-R-C-E and all teams should be proud of their A-C-H-I-E-V-E-M-E-N-T-S! We hope everyone had a fun night spelling with friends and we can't wait to see you next year! #thebeeisback

This week, Ms. Sager's fifth-grade students and Mrs. Hayes' fifth-grade studnets were scientists as they observed and hypothesized about their mold terrariums.  Students are curious to see how changes will control, inhibit, or accelerate mold growth using these variables: sunshine, cold, salt, sugar, cayenne, licked food, and a compostable plate.
