February 4, 2022 - Week 22

 Greetings Dale Street Community,

What a crazy weather day! It is hard to believe that we only have two school weeks before February vacation, especially with all the hard work and determination that students and staff continue to display here at #beproudbedale.  I am so proud of each and every one of them!  Please take a minute to see some photos from this week, as well as stay up-to-date with some important school information.

On Thursday, students in Mrs. Hayes' fifth-grade classroom worked with World Language teacher, Señora DellaMonica to research favorite foods and pastimes in the Spanish-speaking world.  These awesome students wrote terrific short stories including what they discovered!

Please see our updated COVID Guidelines and COVID dashboard.

Positive Sign Thursday!

'WE MODEL COMPASSION!'

Throughout February, I will be reading brief stories about bold women in black history.  Using this amazing book, I will share stories of trailblazing black women.  These read alouds will be incorporated in the Daily Dale each morning.

What do you think?  Students in Ms. DiPesa's and Ms. Plympton's fourth-grade classes worked on persuasive writing using this current topic: Should the Super Bowl be on a Saturday? As I'm sure you would imagine, our Dale Street Rockstars have great opinions!

New Date - On Friday, February 11th Dale Street will have an Olympic Spirit Day.  Students and staff are encouraged to dress as an athlete or in gear from their favorite country.  Patriotic apparel...sports uniforms, t-shirts, and everything in between.

This week, Ms. Condon's fifth-grade class reached a verdict! Students traveled back in time and re-enacted the “Boston Massacre” trials of 1770.  Students compared their verdicts with those of the past.

In recognition of Black History Month, Medfield Together is holding its second annual Black History Knowledge Quest highlighting the achievements and contributions of Black historical figures past and present. Various businesses and sites in the downtown area will serve as a Knowledge Quest "portal" displaying a placard featuring the achievements and contributions of a figure in Black history. This is a family-friendly activity appropriate for all ages. Participants who complete the Quest will have the opportunity to enter a contest to win prizes including one of three $25 gift certificates to Park Street Books!

To participate, find the portal locations, and get additional information, please visit www.medfieldtogether.com.

Medfield Together hopes you will join us on this adventure as we celebrate Black History Month.

Grade 5 families - the permission slips for the March Lowell Mills field trip were sent out earlier this week.  The dates are all correct, but the corresponding days were not.  It should read:

Thursday, March 24 - Condon, Burnham, Sager
Tuesday, March 29 - Chamblin, Nee, Hayes
Thursday, March 31- Ross/Seaver, McKenzie, Johnson

This week, students in Mrs. Ross' and Mrs. Seaver's fifth-grade class really worked hard with their number problems! These students have shown such perseverance, determination, and continuous growth.

Valentine's Day is fast approaching....very exciting!  In an effort to ensure safety for all of our students and staff, we are requesting that no food/candy be sent in with Valentine's cards. On Monday, February 14th, students will enjoy a “Party in a Bag!” Have your child decorate a brown paper lunch bag in a Valentine’s theme. Once decorated, fill it with a few of your child’s favorite food items. Some examples are: juice box or mini water bottle, small salty snack, fun sweet snack (cupcake, cookie), additional items could be a piece of fruit, a small yogurt, or any additional healthy snack.  Adding a little note to your child's bag will definitely make them happy!  Head Room Parents will be coordinating games/crafts for this day.  The snack time and Valentine's themed activities will take place at different times depending on students’ schedules and will be overseen by classroom teachers.

On Tuesday, students in Ms. Isaacson's fourth-grade class made circuits and then tested them to see if materials were conductors and insulators. These hands-on activities and these incredible scientists make science awesome.

Students and staff are invited to participate in the Dale Street School March Madness Free Throw Shooting Contest.  The contest begins Tuesday, March 1st. Click here for more information.  Registration deadline is Friday, February 11th.

If you are interested in becoming an MCPE Board Member, we would love to hear from you.
We're looking for candidates who can commit to a 3-year term, attend Board meetings once a month and have an active interest in enriching kids' education in Medfield Schools.
This year, we have specific needs for applicants to serve in the treasurer role (no previous experience needed-we’ll train!) and with skills that would be an asset to our grant review team and fundraising events. All skill sets are welcome and we strive to have a board with diverse backgrounds.
Visit our website for more info and to apply: https://www.medfieldcoalition.org/volunteer-application-form

Ms. MacDonnel's fourth-grade students continued their Greek Mythology unit this week. Students are working both individually and collaboratively tracking their thinking.
