February 14, 2020 - Week 24

Hello Dale Street,

Happy Valentine's Day to all!  Check this out...Dale Street students involved in the Girls on a Mission group came to school early today decorated the teachers' room and prepared breakfast for the staff at #beproudbedale.  The food and the atmosphere were incredible.  Needless to say, it was a fabulous way to start the day!  We appreciate your thoughtfulness.

Our Daily Daily News Team continues to crush the morning announcements.  Here is one of the news segments from this week: Daily Dale

Bravo to our Positive Referral this week!  Thanks for being a great role model!

Congratulations to our February Math Challenge winners!  Great job!!

Bravo to Ms. Bertschmann's Grade 5 students!  They were awesome as they shared their informational writing projects this week.  The element of choice can be a game-changer for students.

In Mandarin this week with Mrs. Song, students learned about the traditions and customs of Chinese New Year.  Check out these very creative and talented pictures developed by our awesome students.

The next Principal's Coffee will be held on Friday, March 6th, at 8:45 a.m. in the Dale Street School cafeteria.  I will be sharing information on the placement process for the 2020-2021 school year and Dr. Marsden is planning to be on hand to give an update on the Dale Street School building project.  Please RSVP if you are planning to attend.

Last week, I shared out the amazing assembly that Ms. DiPesa's class, Ms. Condon's class, and Ms. McKenzie's class developed and facilitated.  Take a look at this wonderful article that highlights last week's assembly.

This week, students in Mrs. Dowd's fourth-grade class participated in a photo gallery walk to help gain a deeper understanding of the meanings of their words. What a fun and collaborative way to learn!

Check out the PTO update with information about the Grade 4 Kids' Night Out, the Giving Tree for Dale St staff, Winter Carnival, volunteer opportunities and more!

Reading Specialist, Mrs. Callahan visited Mr. Douglas' fourth-grade class to help students think deeper about their reading.  Students used Google Drawings to create heart maps that helped students with this task.

Fourth-grade students in Ms. MacDonnell's class and Ms. Isaacson's class participated in a fun and creative way to dive deeper into fractions.  How you ask?  Using fractions to make their own ice cream of course! #makinglearningfun

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading in all of the classrooms over the past few weeks.  This term, I selected the book Strictly No Elephants by Lisa Mantchev.  This book highlights the importance of being inclusive and shares our Core Values of compassion and collaboration.  Connecting with the kids is the best part of the job!

Thank you to the MCPE for dropping off this delicious cake at Dale Street today.

We hope that you enjoy some time with your family and friends during February break.  There will be no school for students on Monday, February 17th through Friday, February 21st. Students will return to school on Monday, February 24, 2020.

 Have an awesome vacation!
Steve
