Grade 5 students are invited to participate in the Yearbook Cover Contest.  Entry forms were distributed in their classrooms today and are due by Tuesday, February 6th.  Click here for details.  Extra entry forms are also available in the front office.

On Tuesday, students in Mrs. Flynn's Grade 4 class participated in a math 'gallery walk.'  Students viewed and offered feedback to their peers on an exemplar problem.  #collaboration

This was part of a tweet that Dale Street Reading Specialist, Mrs. Christy Callahan sent out this week.  What happens when only 10 minutes a day is added to a student's reading...

Positive Referral!!!
These students received Positive Referrals this week for being compassionate, respectful, and overall positive school citizens.  Super work!

On Thursday, we announced Dale Street first annual free throw shooting contest.  Please click here for all the information.

On Thursday, Dale Street's intramural SWAT (Students Working to Advance Technology) Team led the staff curriculum meeting.  Their task....show staff how they can use certain materials in their curriculum to make learning even more fun!  Take a look at these pictures and the video link to see the students' AWESOMENESS!

Students in Mr. Douglas' fourth grade class used a hands-on approach this week while strengthening their understanding of fractions.  Well done young learners!

One of my goals this year is to visit each classroom at least once per term and read to students.  I started off Term II reading We're All Wonders by R. J. Palacio.  I am challenging all students and staff to 'choose kind' each day.

Check out the PTO update, including information on grade 5 yearbooks, Winter Carnival, fundraisers and more!
Congratulations to this month's 'Lucky Plate' winners!
On a visit to Ms. Bertschmann's fifth grade class this week, students were involved in great discussions about intrinsic/extrinsic motivation and how they connect to characters in their independent reading books.
Thanks to Anna in Ms. Condon's class for reading today's book recommendation. Anna recommended The Green Glass House by Kate Milford for "people who like mysteries and excitement" because "it is full of surprise, and from the very beginning you'll be wondering what's going to happen next."  Anna rated this book 5 stars!  Thanks Anna!

As a reminder, next Thursday, 2/1 will be an early release day.  Students will be dismissed at 11:40 a.m.  Staff will be involved in professional development focused on the new Next Generation Science Standards.

Patriots Spirit Day!

Dale Street School will have a Patriots Spirit Day on Friday, February 2nd to support the Patriots as they take on the Eagles in the Super Bowl.  Staff and students are encouraged to come to school in their Patriots attire or attire that supports their favorite football team.

As always, participation in spirit days is voluntary.
As always, thank you for reading.  Have a great weekend!

Steve
