October 14, 2016 - Week 7

Hello Dale Street Families,

Even though it was a short week, we had lots of exciting things happening at Dale Street! Please enjoy this week's blog and be sure to check out the "Mark Your Calendar" section at the bottom for some upcoming dates and reminders.

to Dale Street students and staff for being commended by the Department of Education for meeting gap narrowing goals and achieving high progress on last year's state assessment!  Although it is also important to remember that this assessment is only one measure of a student’s understanding and growth, we are very proud and honored to have been recognized as a commendation school by the Department of Education. The scores for our students were mailed out today.

Our school participated in a bus evacuation on Tuesday.  All students (regardless of whether they ride the bus to and from school) participated in this important exercise.  Special thanks to Officer Manganello for her assistance with bus evacuation.

Positive Referral!!!
This student received a Positive Referral this week for being extremely helpful to a peer.  Great work!

On a visit to Mrs. Dellamonica's Spanish classroom, I was able to watch Grade 5 students collaborate to gain a better understanding of the Spanish alphabet.  Buen trabajo!

Ms. Bertschmann's fifth grade class took time this week to present their experiments where they used the scientific method.  Awesome work, girls and boys!

As a reminder, picture retake day will be on Tuesday, October 18th.  Forms for retakes are available in the office.

Thanks to Charlotte for reading today's book recommendation.  Charlotte gave five stars to the book Ratburger by David Walliams.  Great job!

Volunteers from the MFi Angel Run will be visiting Dale Street School lunches on Wednesday, October 19th. The 11th running of the family friendly run/fun-run/walk is Sunday, December 4th at 12 p.m. Sign ups by November 1st will include the popular Angel Run shirt. Register online at MedfieldFoundation.org. All proceeds go to help Medfield residents in need.

Special thanks to our very generous PTO who purchased a book for each classroom library to celebrate students' reading efforts over the summer.  The book Wish by Barbara O'Connor was purchased for each Grade 5 classroom library and the book An A From Miss Keller by Patricia Polacco was purchased for each Grade 4 library.  Thank You!

The Medfield Girl Scouts, in conjunction with Cradles to Crayons are collecting gently used clothing, sizes 0-20 and Adult S/M/L.  The collection will take place from October 11th - October 21st.  There is a container located in the front foyer of Dale Street where donations can be dropped off.  If you have any questions, please contact Tracey Rogers or Alexandra Compton.
