May 27, 2016 - Week 36

Greeting Dale Street Families!

Today our school had a Memorial Day assembly. The students did a remarkable job.  We celebrated the dedication of the American Flag by a fifth grade group named the Crusaders, heard a beautiful song from the Grade 5 A Capella group, and listened to the Medfield High School Chamber Group play the Star Spangled Banner.  Grade 5 students Thomas B. (5 Condon) and Abby G. (5 Cowell) recited the Gettysburg Address, and Isaiah D. (5 Bars/Hacker) and Matthew H. (5 Lowerre) played Taps.
It was a wonderful day!

Congratulations to this week's Positive Referrals!  Thank you for making Dale Street such a great place!

Congratulations to the 4th and 5th grade Orchestra for their wonderful concert on Tuesday night.  The students sounded amazing!  Special thanks to our fantastic music instructor, Mrs. Brenna Evans for directing such a great concert!

Students in grades 4 and 5 completed the spring administration of PARCC and MCAS this week. Each and every one of them should be commended for the hard work and determination they demonstrated while answering multiple choice, short answer, and open response questions.  Great job boys and girls!

Students in 4Douglas spent time this week using the app Explain Everything to solve problems and work through the idea of lines of symmetry.  Well done!

The Dale Street School was recognized with two awards at the MCPE's Annual Meeting on Thursday evening.   We received the Elizabeth Busconi Award (Grant) for introducing a new Graphic Novel Section to the Dale Street School Library.  We also received the Thomas Reis Award (co-recipients) for Innovative Advances in Robotics.  This award specifically recognized the MCPE funded Pro-Bots we received at Dale Street this year.  We are humbled and honored to have been recognized by the MCPE.

As a reminder, 5th Grade Yearbook orders are due by June 13th.  Please click here for the order form.
Many students have found it beneficial to work on strengthening math and/or language arts skills over the summer months.  For many years we have used a series of workbooks published by a company called Summer Skills.  These books have been successful in helping students practice and sharpen their skills.  Please be aware that some questions contained in the workbooks may cover topics that have been introduced but not yet mastered.  As a school, we feel that summer work is beneficial, as studies show that much of what is learned during the school year is lost over the summer months; however, this book is entirely OPTIONAL.  For more information, click here (https://drive.google.com/a/mail.medfield.k12.ma.us/file/d/0B9dHKn7bnajydy1CaVJCaXJtYlU/view?usp=sharing) or go to www.SummerSkills.com

Please come and join us for the final Principal's Coffee on Thursday, June 9th in the Dale Street cafeteria. Dale Street staff will be offering suggestions and strategies regrading stress and anxiety in children as they head off to summer. The meeting will begin at 8:45 AM.  Please feel free to bring younger children if you are stuck for daycare.

Troop 85257 is helping Crayola's Colorcycle program collect dried up markers to be turned in for fuel.  This troop is collecting all brands on markers, highlighters, and dry erase markers.  Students can bring in marker donations and place them in a bin in their classroom.  There is also a larger bin outside the main office.  The collection will run until June 17th.
