May 28, 2021 - Week 32

Greetings Dale Street Families,

Today our school held a virtual Memorial Day assembly. The students did a remarkable job.  If you would like to view the presentation and see students' performances, please click here

Today, Dale Street students participated in a Medfield Gear Day to celebrate MCPE’s Blue Ribbon Day.  Blue Ribbon Day was a day students recognized Medfield teachers for going above and beyond.  Students and staff wore blue shirts or Medfield gear!

Congratulations to this week's Dale Street Positive Referrals!  We so appreciate students that go above and beyond to model our Core Values.

A HUGE thank you to Dale Street alumni and current Blake students for visiting Grade 5 classrooms on Thursday to answer students' questions and alleviate fears of the middle school.

Check out the awesome things Ms. Johnson's fifth-grade students were working on with art teacher, Mrs. Delaney.  These students are so talented and working so hard!

Dale Street Field Day is scheduled for Thursday, June 10th (Rain Day, Friday, June 11th).  Mrs. Nawrocki and Mrs. Laughna are planning an exciting day of activities for our 4th and 5th graders.  Grade 4 will participate in Field Day during the morning (9:15 - 11:30) and Grade 5 will participate in the afternoon (12:20 - 2:35). Field Day will take place on the field between the Dale Street and Memorial Schools.  Classes will have the opportunity to rotate through nine stations. Classes will rotate with their classroom. All activities will take place on the field and on the blacktop.

We have found it to be helpful to

**have students wear comfortable clothes and sneakers on this day

**apply sunscreen before coming to school.  Please provide more sunscreen for re-application.

**send children with a hat and extra water on this day.

Classes will be eating bagged lunches. Students may bring their own bagged lunch or purchase a bagged lunch from the cafeteria. Note: There will no other lunch options on this day.

A HUGE THANK YOU to our amazing PTO for organizing a virtual book fair for our teachers.  Our teachers received so many books from our wonderful Dale Street families!  Thank you to everyone for supporting our teachers!

This week, Dale Street fourth-graders participated in another SEED (Science Engineering Education Development) science activity.  Students had fun learning all about reflection & refraction.  Our partnership with SEED this year has been amazing!

On Wednesday, we were fortunate to be joined via zoom by Blake principal, Nat Vaughn, Blake assistant principal, Kelly Campbell, and Blake Guidance Counselor, Tracy Allen for an introduction to Blake for our rising 6th graders. It was a real treat to hear how things work at the middle school as well as see some pictures of students in action!

As a reminder, all rising Grade 5 families (current Grade 4) should fill out the Rising Grade 5 Music Selection Form by Friday, June 4th. For more information on the Dale Street Music Program please visit the Dale Street Music Program Website.

Dale Street School's Reading Specialists, Mrs. Bassett and Mrs. Callahan work with small groups of students to practice reading skills. This group of teachers and students likes to be creative and wants to share their ideas with the town of Medfield.

They are working on a project called “Stones for the Soul.”
Students have been collaborating to create a theme for a book they have collectively read. They will write and decorate their message on a series of beach stones, using outdoor paint. The messages are inspirational life lessons that will uplift your soul.

Keep on the lookout for our Stones for the Soul” at some of the local businesses and community locations around Medfield! You are sure to enjoy their messages and beauty!

Please save the dates of Thursday, June 17th and Friday, June 18th (this will be a rain date) at 9:30 a.m. for Dale Street's Grade 5 Celebration.  This year, the Grade 5 Celebration will take place on the basketball court outdoors and we are hoping for dry and nice weather.  Grade 5 families are welcome and we are asking that all guests bring a lawn chair for seating in an area off the pavement.  The health and safety of our students, their families, and the staff continue to be our number one priority. Therefore. we are asking that there are only 2 guests per student and that you refrain from bringing children.  In addition, if you are not seated more than 6 feet apart from a non-family member you are expected to wear a mask.

On Monday, Director of Music, Jason Bielik met with our Grade 4 students to talk about Dale Street's amazing music program.  Unfortunately, these students didn't have the opportunity to participate in instruments this year, but they are super excited to have the chance next year!

At our monthly meeting, Student Council members came up with the awesome idea to celebrate our First Responders.  We are planning a special treat for them on June 3rd and students are encouraged to create thank you cards to thank these brave individuals for their service. If students decide to participate, cards are due in the office by June 1st.

On Thursday, members of the Student Advisory Council helped members of the Medfield Food Cupboard load up a vehicle with collected items requested by the Food Cupboard.  Special thanks to all of the Dale Street students and their families for supporting this important community initiative.

With the warm weather ahead to close out the school year, please send students to school with a refillable water bottle with their name on it so that they can stay hydrated throughout the day. We have a large number of unclaimed reusable water bottles in our lost and found that may belong to your child- please tell them to stop by and look if you are missing one.  Putting your child's name on it will ensure that it is returned if found. Students may refill their bottles using one of our two bottle filler stations. We hope to be outdoors as much as possible for the remainder of the year so students may wish to have a hat and sunscreen moving forward as well.
