October 4, 2019 - Week 6

Dear Dale Street Families,

What a great week here at #beproudbedale!  There was a lot of learning, a lot of fun and great enthusiasm throughout the week.  Scroll through to take a look....

Congratulations to this week's Positive Referrals!  These students were extremely helpful, compassionate and kind!  We are so proud of you!

Students in Mrs. Nee's fifth grade class ventured down the entrepreneur road this week.  These young learners had the opportunity to design their own taco truck while learning about decimals and geometry.  So cool!

Thanks to Liam for doing our book review this week.  Liam recommended The Wild Robot by Peter Brown.  This book inspired Liam 'because she fights through a lot of things.'  Thanks, Liam!

Week 2 in the Makerspace with Mrs. Lowerre brought some incredible creativity and design thinking.  These kids are AMAZING!

We are very excited that all 4th and 5th grade students have the opportunity to complete biweekly math challenges. Math challenges will be available to print at home from the website linked below.

Students will be free to solve as many problems as they can and will have about a week to turn in their work. We hope that all students and families find these problems to be a challenging and fun activity.

More information, including a calendar of important dates and a link to download and print the challenges and solutions, is available at https://www.mathinaction.org/dale-st-school.html. Questions regarding the math challenge program can be directed to Dale Street math specialist, Mrs. Perachi.

The first challenge is due by Friday, 10/11.

This week in Mr. Mason's class students composed and mailed out letters to famous individuals.  They are all hoping to see if their individual responds.  Stay tuned.....

Thank you to all the students and staff who participated in today's spirit day!  It was such a fun and enthusiastic environment!

Check out the PTO update with important information about volunteer opportunities, signing up for class directories, fundraisers and more.

On Wednesday, students in Ms. McKenzie's fifth grade class collaborated with Dale Street PE teacher Mrs. Nawrocki to practice adding and subtracting decimals based on their running times.  What an exciting (and healthy) way to learn math!  #dalecorevalues

MCPE is selling Vinyard Vines ties this weekend only! Go to medfieldcoalition.org Friday through Monday to order one for all the guys in your life. Ties will take approximately 6 weeks to arrive, making these perfect holiday gifts! Ties are $60-that’s $25 off the regular retail price!

On Tuesday, I had the great privilege to co-teach with Mrs. Flynn.  We highlighted the important parts of political and physical maps.  It had a pirate theme.....so we dressed the part!

Vision screening will take place on Monday, October 7th, and Friday, October 11th.  If your child wears glasses, please make sure the glasses are brought to school on those days.  Thank you!

Grade 4 students were visited again this week by Guidance Counselor, Ms. Warner.  They all learned more about empathy and critical thinking.  In case you have not seen these, I am attaching the Unit Letter for families and an at-home activities letter.

Picture retakes will take place on Tuesday, October 22nd.  Students who would like a retake need to return their entire packet on the day of the retake.  Please note that the All-Grade 5 class photo as well individual class photos will be taken on this day.

Be sure to stop by the Medfield Fire Department's Open House on Thursday, October 10th from 5pm to 7pm.
Is your child missing a sweatshirt (or two or three)?  How about a water bottle? Lunchbox?  Check out our overflowing lost & found for any missing items!  As a reminder, please make sure your child's name is on all belongings.
