March 18, 2022 - Week 27

Greetings Dale Street!

What a spectacular week!  #beproudbedale students were involved in so many wonderful activities both inside and outside of the classroom this week.  I am a proud and privileged principal to work every day with the incredible students and staff at the Dale Street School!

Congratulations to this week's Positive Referral!

Alexander was recognized for being very helpful and collaborative.

Parent/teacher conferences continue next week. Conferences are a wonderful time to check in with your child's teacher about their academic and social/emotional growth. Tuesday, March 22nd is a half-day for student conferences.   Dismissal is at 11:40 a.m. Please be sure to update the School Dismissal Manager with your child's plans for that day.

Positive Sign Thursday!
WE ARE LUCKY TO BE TOGETHER!

The instrumental students at the Dale Street School put on two AMAZING performances this week.  Wednesday's Band-O-Rama and Tuesday's String Fling were outstanding!  Congratulations to all on a job well done!

On Wednesday, March 30th at 4:30PM, the three elementary principals will be hosting a Student Placement Webinar for interested families. We will be discussing the placement process and parental input process for the 2022-2023 school year.  We hope you will be able to join us.  However, if not, the webinar will be recorded and shared with anyone unable to attend. If you have a specific question you would like addressed or if there is a particular placement topic you would like discussed, please complete this survey by Sunday, March 27th.

Dale Street fifth graders continued their connection with SEED (Science and Engineering Education Development) this week.  This week students had the opportunity to see how difficult it is to clean up an oil spill.  Another fantastic, hands-on, and real-life experience granted to us by the MCPE!

2022 TESTING SCHEDULE

Dale Street's testing schedule is set for the spring.  As always it is most important that students attend school on the days of testing, so please plan appointments in a way that does not interfere with your child being in school on the following testing dates:

Congratulations to these Dale Street Rockstars for winning the Metrowest championship!

Fourth graders discussed how to maintain a positive digital footprint with Mr. Ahern this week. Students examined online tracks left behind by fictional characters to find out what they can learn about someone based on their digital footprint. Common Sense Media provides tips on helping kids understand how to post, comment, and upload responsibly. So important!

March 21 - March 27

Neurodiversity Celebration Week provides schools with the opportunity to acknowledge the many strengths and advantages of being neurodivergent. By flipping the narrative, schools can create a more inclusive and equitable environment. We will be focusing on the many strengths and positive aspects that being Neurodivergent brings.

All 3 elementary schools will be following this schedule:

Monday 3/21 - We will start by recognizing Down’s Syndrome on Monday, March 21st. We are encouraging the Dale Street Community to wear mismatched socks to school on this day. In 2013, the theme of “Wearing Odd Socks” was initiated to raise awareness. Over time it has also been promoted as Lots of Socks. The idea was created because chromosomes are shaped “like socks” and people with Down syndrome have an extra chromosome.   The World Youth Alliance wore mismatched socks to show its support for World Down Syndrome Day on March 21, and to celebrate the dignity, resilience, and wonderfulness of every individual with Down Syndrome.   March 21 (3/21) was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome.

Tuesday  3/22- Mr. Grenham will be recording a story to share with all classes; We're All Wonders

Wednesday 3/23 - Wear Blue to celebrate Autism Awareness.

Thursday 3/34- Positive Sign Thursday - ‘WE ARE INCLUSIVE!’  All classes will be watching this video on Thursday.

Friday 3/25- No students - DLD

These are some of the books that will be displayed in the library.
Thank you to our Friday DJ's who rocked the lunchroom today!

Round 3 (the Sweet Sixteen) of our March Madness Tournament began today.  Round 2 scores were posted in the cafeteria last Wednesday at lunch.  Students and staff who made it to Round 3 will need to shoot 10 free throws during one of the following days: Friday, 3/18 or Tuesday, 3/22, between 7:50 a.m. - 8:20 a.m.  Please note that all team members do not have to come the same day, but all need to shoot the free throws by Tuesday, 3/22.

Dale Street School celebrates the Tournament of Poems!

The vision for this year’s March Madness-style reading celebration is inspired by the work students and staff are doing in our classrooms. The brackets are filled with awesome poems. No matter which poem comes in first place, we know that reading always wins-- no matter what! Students are encouraged to read all 16 poems they vote and the "Elite Eight" brackets are set.

Check out this link for specific information about Dale Street's Tournament of Poems.

In collaboration with the PTO, Dale Street's food drive has been going phenomenally!  I am so impressed and proud of our students and families for the support everyone is showing for the Medfield Food Cupboard.

The 5th Grade Yearbook Cover Contest will be accepting entries until April 11th.  Click here for all the details and guidelines for entries. Be creative!
