April 1, 2021 - Week 25

Hello Dale Street Community,

I hope that you had a spectacular week - we sure did!  Take a look at some of the awesomeness that students and staff were involved in during this week.

Congratulations to our positive referrals, Lexi and Avery, for demonstrating Dale Street's Core Values!

With the return to all in-person learning, we are making a few adjustments to the drop-off and pick-up locations to streamline the flow of traffic.  Please review the following locations to ensure a smooth transition.

PLEASE REMEMBER TO UPDATE SCHOOL DISMISSAL MANAGER (SDM) with your child's dismissal plans based on the new all in-person schedule.  As buses have been reassigned and more students will be riding the bus, please make sure SDM is accurate to help us get your child home safely.

I am thrilled to announce that the Dale Street Library is almost ready to welcome students back for the first time in more than a year! This week grade 4 and 5 classes visited the library to participate in a library orientation.  Special thanks to Ms. Swweney and Mrs. Cole for their efforts in getting everything ready to go for our rockstar students and staff!

Dale Street's Student Council Food Cupboard Drive

After a student council representative shared a news clip that noted Massachusetts families (especially those living in Norfolk County) are really relying on food banks, the student council representatives and alternates voted to run a drive to support the Medfield Food Cupboard.  We are so proud of these students!  After contacting the Food Cupboard to see what items they were in the most need of, the list below was compiled.

When: Tuesday, April 27th through Tuesday, May 25th

Where: Drop off in boxes outside the main office.

Requested Items: Men’s and Women's soap, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, sunscreen, and bug spray

On Tuesday, students in Ms. Flynn's fourth-grade class worked collaboratively to analyze which cover would be more fitting to the story they had read.  The reasons students suggested one cover best represented the book were outstanding!

For our GRADE 5 PARENTS: On Tuesday, April 6th, at 5:30 p.m., we will be holding a webinar for parents about the upcoming Grade 5 Health Unit on Adolescent Changes.  If you have a specific question you would like addressed or if there is a particular topic about this unit you would like discussed, please complete this form by Sunday, April 4th.  This webinar will be recorded.

Here is a link to the video which students will be viewing as part of the unit.

Thank you to everyone who attended last Tuesday's webinar focusing on placement for the 2021-2022 school year.  If you were unable to make it to the live presentation, here is a link to the recording.  If you would like to view the slide deck that was used during the presentation, you can find that here.

Today, this letter was sent out to Grade 4 families offering parents the opportunity to share information about their son/daughter for next year’s placement at Dale Street.  The information that you share will be used to assist me with the student placement process for the 2021 – 2022 school year.  When corresponding about placement, parents are asked to focus on the type of learning environment that best meets the strengths and needs of their child.  Please know that throughout the placement process our focus will be on placing your child in a classroom in which they will grow both academically and socially.  Parent input narratives should be sent in no later than Friday, April 16th.  For other suggestions regarding the parent narrative, please see the slide deck link listed above.

The 5th Grade Yearbook Cover Contest will be accepting entries until April 9th.  Click here for all the details and guidelines for entries. Be creative!

On Monday, Grade 5 students in Ms. Burnham's class rocked the double-length jump rope with Mrs. Nawrocki in PE.  Great to see the kids active and having fun!

The Dale Street Math Challenge is on!  Students are free to solve as many problems as they can and will have about a week to turn in their work. Students can hand in a hard copy of the challenge to the office or email it to Mrs. Perachi (bperachi@email.medfield.net) prior to the due date.

More information, including a calendar of important dates and a link to download and print the challenges and solutions, is available here. Questions regarding the math challenge program can be directed to Dale Street math specialist, Mrs. Perachi.

The community support for #OneMedfieldOnward has been incredible! Dr. Marsden explains why this campaign is so important:

"The Medfield Coalition for Public Education is stepping up once again to support the students in Medfield. Their latest initiative is the One Medield- Onward Campaign to support additional costs associated with the return to full in-person. In addition to PPE and cleaning materials for all five schools, these funds can be used to support our students' social-emotional learning and the expansion of technology. Although additional stimulus funds will eventually make their way to Medfield, this support through the "Onward Campaign" will allow for greater flexibility for both the spring and fall of 2021"

-Jeff Marsden, Medfield Superintendent of Schools

Our goal is to raise $100,000, which means we are asking everyone to not only donate, but to help spread the word to friends and family!

We’ve seen a lot of success with people raising money through E4E (Entertainment for Education) type-events. If you would like to host an E4E, register your event prior to 4/3 to have it count towards this campaign! Visit our website to register your E4E, learn more about the initiative, and donate!

We have seen an uptick in students bringing electronic devices to school.  As a reminder, the handbook states, Students will not be in possession of any electronic devices including cell phones, iPods, handhelds, Nintendo DS, Kindles, etc…without the express permission of the principal.  If you need to get in touch with your child during school hours, please contact the front office. Thank you in advance for your support.

Feeling stressed, down or anxious? Need to talk to someone about it?  Medfield Outreach is offering drop-in hours.  Check out this flyer for details.

This week students in Ms. Plympton's and Ms. MacDonnell's Grade 4 classes had some fun in math.  They 'hopped' around their classrooms in search of math problems.  What a fun way to engage students!

You are invited to join the Medfield Cares About Prevention Community Coalition and help us make change in the Medfield community. To learn more about how to get involved, email Meri Haas at mhaas@medfield.net.
