Hello Dale Street Families,
We hope that you all had a good week. Things are going very well at #beproudbedale. The students are working incredibly hard and it is such a treat to work with them. The staff also continues to work very hard, planning late into the evenings and during the weekends to provide the best experience for all students. I couldn't be more proud of our ROCKSTAR students and staff! Check out some of the happenings from this past week...
Congratulations to our first Positive Referral of the school year. Jack, from Ms. McKenzie's fifth-grade class, was nominated for exemplifying compassion. Way to go, Jack!
On Tuesday evening Wheelock principal, Mrs. Caulfield and I held our second Elementary Webinar of the school year. The webinar focused on Google Classroom and the Grades 2-5 Learning Expectations. Special thanks to Marissa Foley and Joe Ahern, Technology Integration Specialists for sharing their knowledge about Google Classroom. Also, thank you to the near 80 people who attended the webinar. If you were unable to make Tuesday night's webinar or had to leave early, here is the link:

On Wednesday, Library Media Specialist, Ms. Sweeney and Dale Street students kicked off Dale Street’s first virtual Makerspace project of the year. Earth Science Week was celebrated by making fossils! Next week is National Chemistry Week - can’t wait to see what comes next Wednesday!
Last week on the Dale Street Blog, I informed families that Dale Street would be shifting our expectations for student work on Wednesday afternoons. On Wednesdays, students are expected to participate in an independent work session from 12:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Students should use the time on Wednesday afternoons to complete a Specialists' choice activity, participate in 20-30 minutes of independent choice reading time (similar to what they do in school each day), work on assignments given that morning, work on long term projects, and/or get caught up on assignments from earlier in the week. Staff is aware that students may have some commitments on Wednesday afternoon. This is perfectly ok. We have provided a time frame only to assist families with scheduling. If some of the activities listed above need to be completed later in the afternoon or earlier in the evening on Wednesdays, that is fine. Students/families are encouraged to do what works best for them. The afternoons will not include additional Zoom meetings as staff is involved in planning throughout Wednesday afternoons. We appreciate your support as we continue to navigate our unprecedented, current situation and continue to continuously grow.
This week students in Ms. McKenzie's fifth-grade class took time figuring out what their writing stories are really about using 'heart of a story' organizers. What incredible writers!
We still have a few openings for parent representatives for the Dale Street school council. The School Council is an advisory board for the principal to help set the direction of the school through advisement and approval of important policies and documents, such as the School Improvement Plan. The council consists of educators, parents, and community representatives and meets one afternoon every other month (virtually until further notice). If you are interested, please submit a letter of interest to me at sgrenham@email.medfield.net by October 22, 2020.
On Thursday (10/15), we began Round 2 of our Special Subjects schedules. Students in Grade 4 will now be in Art and PE. Grade 5 students will be in Health and World Language. Specials will change on a 4-week rotation schedule. Be sure to ask your child about their new classes!
During a visit to Ms. Condon's 5th-grade class this week, a student asked me if I weren't a principal what job would I like to have. My response...FBI. Later that day, Steve from Ms. Condon's class drew a picture of me as an FBI agent. So AWESOME!
Please check out this flyer from Medfield Outreach about weekly drop-in mental health hours during the month of October.
Although recess looks slightly different during our current situation, it is great to see the children playing and interacting with one another.
Students may bring lunch from home or purchase a meal from the cafeteria. Lunch is prepared by our cafeteria staff and is delivered to the classrooms. Meals prepared in the cafeteria will be free to all students through December 31st. We are encouraging families to fill in the free & reduced lunch application for when the waiver expires on Dec. 31, 2020.
Earlier today, the virtual meet the staff presentation was emailed out to all families. In case you did not get to see the email, here is the link to the presentation. We hope you find this information helpful and informative.
BOOst someone's SPIRITS this Halloween by "ghosting" them with a lawn sign!
Lawn ghosts are 22" high by 15" wide, made of high-quality Corex, and include lawn stakes.
Each lawn ghost also has a place on the back for your little goblin to write their name ("You've been Boo'd by______") so you can "ghost" all of your friends to share in the excitement of the season!
Lawn ghosts are $10 each and support the Dale Street PTO (funding activities for students and teachers). Please Venmo DaleStreetPTO and include # of ghosts requested and your address for delivery. Ghosts will be delivered to you beginning October 13 until supplies run out! Get them before they VANISH!
On a visit to Mrs. Nee's Grade 5 classroom today, students were using the 'turtlehead method' when multiplying double-digit numbers. These kids are so talented!
